LONG BEACH, Calif. – Fifth-year senior Kaylee Ramirez has been named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. The conference announced the weekly winners on Monday.
Ramirez played a crucial role on both sides of the ball, helping the Beach to a 2-0 start to the Big West season.
The Chino Hills native helped lead a defensive effort that surrendered a goal in each game and faced just seven shots on goal in their two games. For the season, she and the LBSU defense own a league-leading 1.10 goals against average.
Offensively, she notched a pair of assists on the week including the game-winning assist to Lena Silano against UC San Diego on Thursday. Her second assist came against Hawai'i which led to the first career goal for Alyssa Reyes.
Ramirez now owns a Big West-leading five assists on the year which also marks the most by a Long Beach State player since the 2015 season.
As a team, the Beach has received three weekly honors this season, the most for the program since receiving three in 2016.
