Houston-Shepherd Earns Second Consecutive Defensive Player of the Week

The redshirt freshman goalkeeper becomes the first LBSU back-to-back winner since 2014.
IRVINE, Calif. – Morgan Houston-Shepherd was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after holding No. 8 Pepperdine and No. 4 UCLA to one goal each last week. She is the first back-to-back winner of the award since Ashton McKeown did it in 2014.
The Rancho Murrieta native began the second week of the season with seven saves in a 2-1 upset victory over the number eight-ranked Waves. Houston-Shepherd and the Beach defense held Pepperdine scoreless through the final 78 minutes on their way to the win.
In Long Beach State's second match of the week, the team went to Westwood to face-off against No. 4 UCLA. Against the Bruins, Houston-Shepherd faced four shots on goal and made three saves in the 1-0 loss.
For the season, the redshirt freshman sports a 84.6% save percentage with 11 total saves through the first three games.
Houston-Shepherd and the Beach resume action this week with a pair of matchups in San Diego, starting with the Toreros on Thursday.
