Houston-Shepherd Claims First Big West Defensive Player of the Week Honor

The redshirt freshman recorded her first career win and shutout in her collegiate debut.
IRVINE, Calif. – Morgan Houston-Shepherd was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week after a stellar collegiate debut against CSUN last week. It marks the first weekly honor of her career.
She is the first Long Beach State recipient of the award since Oct. 15, 2018 and first LBSU goalkeeper to win it since Aug. 20, 2018.
The redshirt freshman made her collegiate debut against CSUN last week, helping the team to a 2-0 shutout over the Matadors. With the season opening victory, she earns her first career win and first career shutout.
Starting in goal for LBSU, the Rancho Murrieta native recorded her lone save in the 90th minute to preserve the first season opening shutout for the program since the 1-0 upset over UCLA in 2015.
Houston-Shepherd and the Beach play their next match this Thursday at Pepperdine. Kickoff is at 3:00 p.m. in Malibu.
