Ruiz Selected Sixth Round by the St. Louis Cardinals

Sophomore Alfredo Ruiz was drafted by the Cardinals with the 181st overall pick of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft.
LONG BEACH, Calif. –Alfredo Ruiz was selected as the 181st overall pick on day two of the 2021 MLB Draft in Colorado. The sophomore was taken in the sixth round by the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Santa Fe Springs native becomes the third Dirtbag in the last four years to be drafted by St. Louis, with the most recent being LJ Jones who was taken in the fifth round last year.
Ruiz finishes his career with a 9-5 overall record in 35 appearances, and 20 starts. The southpaw pitched to a 3.51 ERA in 136 career innings in the black and gold. The southpaw also totaled 122 strikeouts while walking 50 and holding opponents to a .245 average.
The southpaw was named to the All-Big West Second Team in his final season, going 5-1 with a 2.98 ERA in conference play. In 57.2 total innings, he struck out 59 helping the Dirtbag pitching staff to some of the best numbers in the nation.
With the selection, the Dirtbags have now had at least one player go in the top ten rounds in eight of the last nine years.
