Aaron Booth and Jason Smith have been awarded All-America status after their performances at the NCAA Championships.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Aaron Booth and Jason Smith have been named USTFCCCA All-Americans for their performances at the NCAA Championships last week. It marks the tenth-straight season Long Beach State has had at least one All-American selection.
Aaron Booth had a historic performance at the championships earning First Team All-American honors. The junior transfer set the school record with 6,744 points in the men's Decathlon, surpassing the previous-best set back in 2006, for a sixth-place finish.
He posted season-bests in the 110m Hurdles, Discus, and matched his lifetime-best in Pole Vault.
The New Zealand native becomes the first LBSU athlete to achieve a First Team selection since 2014 and now has five All-American selections, three in outdoor, in his collegiate career.
Jason Smith carried his success into the championships posting a pair of top ten finishes, taking home ninth in the Long Jump and tenth in High Jump, for a pair of Second Team All-American honors. He is the first Long Beach State athlete to accomplish the feat since 2011.
The senior got his week started with Long Jump where he came through with his best jump on his third attempt (25-2.5) to move into ninth-place and secure the three extra tries. While he did not improve in the final round, it is just the third fourth top ten finish in the event in LBSU history.
He was back in action two days later for the High Jump where he went on to match his lifetime-best
(7-2.5) on his third attempt to lock him into tenth-place. It is the best mark since Hall of Famer Dwight Stones won the event in 1976.
The San Bruno native ends his collegiate career with five All-American honors, three of which came in the outdoor season.
