Jones Earns Second Big West Weekly Honor This Season

Junior Alec Jones has been named the Big West Field Athlete of the Week.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – For the second time this season, Alec Jones has been named the Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
The junior thrower picked up a double victory at the LBSU Throws Fest with wins in the Hammer and Discus. He now has four wins in the men's Discus and two wins in the men's Hammer.
His Hammer throw went 61.33m in the victory setting a new lifetime-best by four and a half feet. At 201 feet, two inches, it is also the ninth-best mark in school history. His second victory of the day came in the Discus as he took the lead in his final throw of the day to finish in the top spot at 54.26m (178 feet).
Jones now ranks number one in the Big West Conference in both events with the championships fast approaching. His Discus mark also ranks 15th in the West region and 32nd in the NCAA while his Hammer mark ranks 41st and 77th, respectively.
While Jones is off this week and preparing for the Big West Outdoor Track and Field Championships next weekend, a few of his teammates will be participating in the conference multi-events championship this week.
