Dirtbag alumni Jarren Duran, will participate in the Olympic Qualifiers for Team USA at the end of this month.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Former Dirtbag Jarren Duran has been named to the Team USA Olympic Qualifier Roster, the organization announced Sunday.
He will be the first Dirtbag to be a member of Team USA since Clayton Andrews played on the Premier12 team in 2019.
Duran has been making headlines as he awaits the call to the major league roster. Currently the No. 3 prospect in the Boston Red Sox organization, he is slashing .278/.366/.625 with seven home runs and 12 RBI in AAA Worcester. For his minor league career, the converted outfielder has a .318 average in 217 games played.
As a Dirtbag, he played three outstanding seasons posting a .294 career average in 169 games. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2018 Amateur Draft after leading the team with 67 hits, 42 runs, and 17 stolen bases. His 49 career stolen bases still ranks tied for fourth in the LBSU record books.
Should Duran and Team USA qualify, he would become the first Dirtbag to compete in the Olympics for the United States since Jason Giambi did it in 1992.
The WBSC Olympic Qualifiers begin on Monday, May 31 with Team USA starting pool play against Nicaragua. The games will be streamed live on ESPN+ from St. Lucie, Fla.
