Braswell will retire following a 40-year coaching career.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Men's Basketball assistant coach Bobby Braswell has announced that he will be retiring effective June 1. Braswell most recently spent three seasons as part of the coaching staff at the Beach.

"I want to thank Coach Braswell for his loyal service to our program," said head coach Dan Monson.  "It was great to tap into his basketball knowledge, and it was awesome working alongside such an ethical and respected colleague. I am excited for him to be able to transition from our profession on his terms, and wish him and his family great health and happiness as they embark on their next chapter of life."

Braswell began his coaching career as the head coach at Cleveland High School, where he coached talents such as Lucious Harris, a Long Beach State legend and the program's leading scorer. He then came to Long Beach State himself, serving as an assistant coach for three seasons under Joe Harrington and Seth Greenberg from 1989 to 1991.

Moving to Oregon, Braswell was an assistant coach for the Ducks for four seasons before taking on his most prominent role as the head coach for his Alma Mater, CSUN, beginning in 1996.

As head coach of the Matadors, Braswell led CSUN to three regular season championships, three 20-win seasons and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in 2001 and 2009, the only two appearances in school history. Over 17 seasons, Braswell recorded 251 wins at CSUN and still ranks 11th in career coaching wins as a member of the Big West.

A two-time Big West Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2009, Braswell was also named the Big Sky Coach of the Year in 2001. Braswell spent five seasons as an assistant coach at UTEP before returning to his first collegiate home in Long Beach in 2018.

"I want to thank and acknowledge Coach Braswell for his commitment to the Beach over the years," said Director of Athletics Andy Fee. "Bobby brought energy and enthusiasm to the court each day, as well as guidance for our student-athletes success in the classroom. His integrity, ethics and hard work led to a very successful career and so many lives changed for the better. We are indebted to him and wish him well as he moves towards the next stage of his journey."

"All glory, honor and praise belong to the most-high God," said Braswell. "I thank him for the awesome privilege to serve."
