Once again, Long Beach State has strong representation on big league rosters.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State will be well-represented on big league rosters once again in the 2021 season as five Dirtbags have made opening day rosters.
Evan Longoria continues his tremendous career as he will begin his 14th season in the majors. The third baseman is slotted to once again be the starting third baseman in his fourth season in San Francisco.
Bryan Shaw has moved around the last few years, but has returned to Cleveland for the 2021 season. The right-hander begins his 11th season in the bigs as a member of the Indians' bullpen looking to bounce back from some struggles in the COVID-shortened season.
Matt Duffy begins his tenure with a new team as he joins the Chicago Cubs this season. A member of the Yankees last year, the utility man did not make an appearance in the majors during the 2020 season.
Garrett Hampson looks to have a much bigger role for the Colorado Rockies this season as the franchise began its rebuild mode. The 2016 draftee is expected to see playing time in both the infield and outfield this year.
Last, but certainly not least is 2019 National League All-Star, Jeff McNeil. The second baseman will be a key factor for a Mets team that is expected to be in heavy contention for the NL East championship in 2021.
Nick Vincent and Shane Carle are beginning their seasons in the minor leagues, but are likely on the short list to be called up for the Rangers and Reds, respectively.
Jarren Duran is likely to be the next Dirtbag to make his MLB debut as the second baseman turned center fielder was red hot this spring and is expected to get the call sometime this season.
