Fregulia Becomes First NWSL Draftee in LBSU Program History

Fregulia was selected as the 12th overall pick by NC Courage.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Kaitlin Fregulia was drafted twelfth overall by the North Carolina Courage in the first round of the 2022 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Draft on Saturday. She becomes the first women's soccer student-athlete to be drafted in the NWSL in Long Beach State program history.
The Torrance native finished her Beach career as a two-time Big West Defensive Player of the Year, two-time United Soccer Coaches All-West Region selection, and totaled five All-Big West honors including a pair of First Team selections in her career.
In her final season with the Beach, Fregulia earned a Second Team All-West Region selection to her list of accolades after being named Big West Co-Defensive Player of the Year and All-Big West First Team for the 2021 season. The Torrance native totaled three points on the season while leading the defense to the lowest goals against average in the conference.
Over the course of her career, she totaled 70 games played and 64 starts scoring 20 points on seven goals and six assists with the Beach. After converting to center back for the latter years of her career, she led the Long Beach State defense to 25 shutouts.
The only other player in Long Beach State women's soccer history to appear in the NWSL was Shawna Gordon back in 2015-16.
