Kaitlin Fregulia and Maddy Perez lead a group of six Beach athletes to earn All-Big West honors.
IRVINE, Calif. – After a nine-win season, Long Beach State women's soccer saw six of their players earn All-Big West selections including a pair of top honors as Kaitlin Fregulia was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year and Maddy Perez was named Freshman of the Year.
For Fregulia, it is the second time she has earned the league's top defensive honor after winning it in 2017. She becomes just the third LBSU athlete to have multiple player of the year accolades and the first defender to do it in the program's history. The senior led the Beach defense to the lowest goals against average in the league as well as recording a goal and an assist this season.
Perez becomes the fourth Long Beach State Freshman of the Year winner and first since the 2016 season. The West Covina native was a staple in the midfield for the Beach and filled in on the back line as well. In her first year on the pitch with LBSU, she totaled three assists and scored the first goal of her collegiate career against San Diego on September 2.
Both Fregulia and Perez were also All-Big West First Team selections with Perez earning a spot on the All-Freshman team as well.
The third and final First Team selection is Lena Silano. The junior put together a historic year totaling 11 goals, six of which were game-winners, and accumulating 25 total points. In the program's all-time record books, her 2021 season ranks second in game-winning goals, third in shots, fifth in goals, and seventh in points. She is one of just nine players in program history to score ten-plus goals in a single-season.
In her final season, Kayla Cannon earns an All-Big West Second Team selection. She scored three goals this season, all of which went as game-winners matching the tenth most game-winning goals for a single-season in program history. The Second Team selection marks the first all-conference award of her career.
Kaylee Ramirez was also named All-Big West for the first time in her career, earning an Honorable Mention. The senior led the team and ranked tied for third in the league with seven assists, the most for Long Beach State since the 2013 season. She also earned her first Big West Defensive Player of the Week this season on September 27.
The final Long Beach State honoree is Mya Daily, who was named to the All-Freshman Team alongside Perez. Daily was converted to center back in the offseason and was a crucial piece in the Beach defense. Starting in all 16 of her games played, she helped the team to a league-leading 0.89 goals against average.
