The Beach had their season end in a 2-1 loss to the Gauchos.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State (9-7-2, 6-3-1 BWC) had their season come to an end on Sunday afternoon. UC Santa Barbara (7-8-3, 6-3-1 BWC) scored the game-winner in the final minute to make it 2-1.
Things got underway after the ceremony honoring the seniors from both 2020 and 2021 for Long Beach State. And it was a senior who got the scoring started.
In the 17tha minute, a Maddy Perez set piece from about 25 yards out went in to the box for Kaitlin Fregulia. The senior got her first touch off her chest in front of the keeper and finished in the wide open net for the first goal of the game.
It goes as Fregulia's seventh goal in what was the final game of her Long Beach State career.
That 1-0 lead held into halftime thanks to Zora Standifer. The freshman totaled six saves through the first 45, including a diving stop in the final minute before the horn sounded.
UC Santa Barbara would score the equalizer in the 70th minute on a shot far post from just outside the top of the box.
The Gauchos would rally in the final minutes as a weak clear from the Beach defense led to a chip pass to Claire Grouwinkel right in front of the net to give UCSB the 2-1 advantage with 89:03 on the clock.
