Women’s Cross Country Team Posts Top Ten at Chile Pepper Festival

The women’s team finished tenth while the men came in sixteenth.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Long Beach State women's cross country team had a fantastic showing at the Chile Pepper Festival on Friday night, posting a tenth place finish out of 36 teams. The men finished the event in sixteenth out of 37 competing teams.
Allie Scimia entered the record books with a time of 17:28.9, crossing the line in 22nd place out of a field of over 300 racers. Her mark is the seventh-fastest 5K time in Long Beach State history and a new lifetime-best for the freshman.
This is the second meet of the season that Scimia has led the Beach across the finish line.
Not too far behind her and just missing out on another all-time top ten mark was Ryley Fick. The junior finished 36th overall with a time of 17:41.6, shattering her personal best by over a minute.
Bronwyn Bunnell was third across the line for the Beach with a time of 18:08.3 with Anitha Graves crossing the line shortly after at 18:17.3.
Brieanna Tafoya (18:44.6), Tiana Prince (19:01.6), and Yajaira Calderon (19:22.9) rounded out the scoring for the women's team.
Tessa Chen was the final Beach athlete to cross the line, setting a new personal best 5K time of 19:35.2.
In the men's 8K, the Phillips brothers were the top two Long Beach State finishers. Michael Phillips led the way for the third straight meet posting a time of 24:47.2 while Connor Phillips recorded a time of 25:09.3.
Raymon Ornelas was third at 26:26.6 with Jacob Korgan right behind him at 26:28.3.
Antonio Munoz rounded out the team with a 26:46.3.
Long Beach State returns to action on October 16 with a return to UC Riverside for the Highlander Invitational.
