"Long Beach State University Athletics is committed to social justice and equality for all. The pain of this past week illustrates how much work remains until all people can live with dignity, freedom and opportunity. We must stand up for one another and understand the fear and outrage rightly provoked by the murder of George Floyd, and the much longer history of racism and discrimination in our country. Today many people experience not only acts of violence, but also the everyday experience of deeply rooted discrimination. Whether we look at our criminal justice, educational or healthcare systems, persons of color are disproportionately affected. These past weeks have accentuated the racial inequalities in our country and we must not remain silent. We stand with the Black community and all those working towards justice and equality.
I want our coaches, staff, and student-athletes of color to know we are here for them, and we are here to listen and help. I stand shoulder to shoulder with President Conoley, campus administration, and our faculty and staff who use their voice to condemn racism and oppression. My hope is that we work together towards a society with true freedom, opportunity, and social justice for ALL."
