Clarke Godbold Named Nation’s Top 2020 Recruit by VolleyballMag.com Boys Fab 50

Five of Long Beach State’s recruits were selected to the top 50 list

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The 2020 VolleyballMag.com Boys Fab 50 rankings were announced this morning by the publication and Long Beach State incoming freshman outside hitter Clarke Godbold topped the list as the nation's top recruit.
A total of five incoming recruits for the Beach were selected to the Fab 50 list as Nato Dickinson, Matthew Iamaleava, Noah Robin, and Sebastian Rodriguez rounded out the top 50 players in the country. All five signed with Long Beach State last November and will play for the Beach for the 2021 season.
Godbold earned the honor of being the nation's top recruit in the Class of 2020 by a landslide. Thirty-two points separated Godbold, who was also named the 2019 VolleyballMag.com boys club player of the year, from the second-place selection.
A 6-foot-5 outside hitter from Palos Verdes, Calif., Godbold played for SCVC and was a member of the 2018 and 2019 USA Youth National Team. He led the 2019 USA Junior National Team to a Gold Medal and was named to the All-American Team.
Godbold previously won a Gold Medal with the 2017 USA Junior National Team en route to being selected to the All-American Team.
Dickinson is a 6-foot-7 outside hitter and opposite out of Newport Beach, Calif. The Pinnacle Athletic Club product was a 2019 USA Youth A1 National Training Team member.
Iamaleava is a local product from Long Beach, Calif., who prepped at Poly High School and played club for Rockstar Volleyball Club. The 6-foot-6 middle blocker helped lead his team to the 2019 Junior Nationals where they earned a Bronze Medal. He was named to the All-American Team for his efforts.
Robin is a 6-foot-7 middle blocker who signed with LBSU after prepping at Huntington Beach High School and playing club at Pinnacle Athletic Club.
Rounding out the five Long Beach State commits who were selected to the Fab 50 is Sebastian Rodriguez. The 6-foot-5 outside hitter comes from Redondo Beach, Calif., where he played at Redondo Union High School and Balboa Bay Volleyball Club. The two-time All-American played at Junior Nationals where he was a two-time Gold Medalist and was named the 2018 MVP. The 2019 Volleyball Magazine All-American was also a 2018 and 2019 USA Youth National Team alternate.
