LONG BEACH, Calif. –
For the seventh time this season, No. 4 Long Beach State hit over .300 as junior setter Carlos Rivera led a balanced offense to a 3-0 [25-20, 25-20, 25-23] sweep over Lindenwood Friday night at the Walter Pyramid.

The Beach (10-1) were led offensively by redshirt sophomore outside hitter Spencer Olivier's 11 kills as he hit .474 in the match, while adding six digs, two blocks, and one assist. Rivera paced Long Beach State with 35 assists, nine digs, two kills, one block, and one ace.

Long Beach State's defense put up 6.5 blocks as the Beach were led by sophomore middle blocker Shane Holdaway who posted four block assists to go along with five kills, and one ace. Junior outside hitter Ethan Siegfried contributed three blocks, while adding nine kills, six digs, and a season-best three aces.

Lindenwood (11-7) hit .200 in the match and posted 6.0 total team blocks, but were unable to take a set off the Beach. The Lions battled and managed to tie the second and third sets seven different times, but the Beach prevailed.

LBSU hit .360 in the first set and used a 6-1 run to take an 11-6 lead. That run gave the Beach all it would need as Long Beach State led the rest of the way and claimed a 25-20 set one victory.

The second set saw the Beach and the Lions fight through seven ties. With the game knotted at 20-20, Long Beach State closed out the frame on a 5-0 run sparked by a kill from Holdaway.

Leading two sets to none, Long Beach State hit .316 in the third set, but Lindenwood would not go away quietly. The two teams found themselves deadlocked at 17-17 as Marc Moody broke the tie to kick off three-straight LBSU points.

After a timeout by the Lions, Ryan Poole knocked down back-to-back kills to give the Beach a 22-18 advantage. LBSU pushed it to match point, 24-19, but Lindenwood made things interesting as the Lions cut the Beach's lead down to one (24-23). However, Long Beach State capitalized on a Lindenwood attack error as the Beach took home the sweep with a 25-23 set three win.

The Lions were led by Jeremy Kirch's nine kills, while Phil Swartz and AJ Lewis each added eight kills. Swartz also contributed nine digs in the match. Brian Schwob led the squad with 25 assists, while adding eight digs. Meanwhile, Alex Pappas posted four blocks (one solo block, three block assists) on the evening.

The Beach have now won their last six matches as they head into Big West Conference action. Long Beach State will host No. 3 UCSB on Thursday, March 12 at 7 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid, before traveling to Santa Barbara to take on the Gauchos on Friday, March 13 at 7 p.m.
