LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Golf has announced that Kristina Ponomareva has signed her commitment to join the Beach for the 2021-22 season.
Ponomareva is an accomplished golfer out of Moscow, Russia with an impeccable record in both domestic and international play. A member of the Russian National Team, she participated in the European Ladies Team Championship in 2019 as well as the European Young Masters that same season.
Domestically in 2019, Ponomareva was the winner of both the Russian Amateur Championship as well as the Russian Junior Championship.
"Our recruitment has taken us on a global search this year, and we were able to find an outstanding player in Kristina. She represents the first foreign recruit in my coaching tenure, and we believe she has all the qualities we are looking for in our student athletes," said head coach Joey Cerulle.
"Kristina is an excellent ball striker and green reader," continued Cerulle. "She has the mindset to grind out rounds, and the experience of playing on the global stage. We look forward to showing her what Long Beach State is all about!"
