Women’s Volleyball Kicks Off 2019 Season with Black & Gold Scrimmage

Long Beach State will host its annual Black & Gold Scrimmage on Saturday afternoon at the Pyramid
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team is gearing up for the 2019 season which officially starts next week on Friday, August 30 at the Georgia Tech Invitational. However, fans wishing to get a glimpse of the Beach will have a chance this Saturday, August 24 for the Black and Gold Scrimmage at 2 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid.
The Beach will hit the newly installed Taraflex for first time this season as they welcome back 10 letterwinners, five starters, and three Big West Conference selections in seniors Hailey Harward (Honorable Mention) and YiZhi Xue (Honorable Mention), as well as All-Freshman Team selection Kashauna Williams.
Head Coach Joy McKienzie-Fuerbringer returns for her third season at the helm of the program and will bring in a solid recruiting class comprised of eight newcomers highlighted by incoming freshmen Nicole Hoff (Libero) and Tia Chavira (Setter), and transfers Avery Nelson (Outside Hitter) and Amanda Henderson (Outside Hitter).
The Black and Gold intersquad scrimmage is free of charge. Fans are also reminded to observe the Clear Bag Policy in effect at all Long Beach State athletic events.
Long Beach State's home opener is set for Thursday, Sept. 5 against Texas State as part of the Long Beach Mizuno Classic which runs from Sept. 5 – 7. Fans wishing to purchase tournament, single game, or season tickets may contact the Long Beach State Box Office at 562-985-4949 or CLICK HERE.
