LONG BEACH, Calif. – In the 2018-19 Learfield IMG Directors' Cup, Long Beach State finished as the fourth-highest scoring non-football school and finished with 203 total points after an extremely successful spring.
Led by the 2019 National Champion Men's Volleyball program, Long Beach State trailed only Hawai'i among Big West programs, and was 90th overall among 351 Division I athletics programs.
The Beach was the highest scoring California State University program, and trailed only Denver, Pepperdine and Portland among non-football schools.
"Our student-athletes performed at a tremendously high level this past year," Director of Athletics Andy Fee said. "It is something we aspire to at Long Beach State University and is reflective of the goal we have to be comprehensively excellent, not just great in one sport or two, but across all of our programs.
"Cultivating leaders & champions is at the heart of all we do, on and off the field of competition. President Conoley and I are extremely proud of everyone involved with Beach Athletics, which includes our student-athletes, coaches, staff, fans, and donors who help make this journey possible. We look forward to continued success in years to come!"
The Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. Stanford was the winner of the 2018-19 competition.
In addition to the champion Men's Volleyball program, Long Beach State also received points from Women's Soccer, Men's Water Polo, Women's Golf, Women's Tennis and Men's Track and Field.
