Women’s Hoops Signs Four for the 2019-20 Season

The Beach bring in a talented recruiting class that features two forwards, a guard, and a center

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State women's basketball coach Jeff Cammon announced the signing of four incoming players for the 2019-20 season. Alyssa Alvarez, Danelle Arigbabu, Kristyna Jeskeona, and Jada Smith round out the Beach's recruiting class.

"We are very excited about our 2019 recruiting class," Cammon said. "To be able to add the athleticism, versatility, and size to our growing ball club is very exciting. This class has amazing potential." 

Alyssa AlvarezAlyssa Alvarez | Fr. | G | 5-10 | Scottsdale, Ariz. (Horizon HS)
Alvarez comes to the Beach from Horizon High School in Scottsdale, Ariz. During her prep career she averaged 16.9 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, and 3.6 assists per game. The team's leading scorer the last two years, Alvarez is known for her ball-handling skills and can shoot well from the perimeter. She helped lead Horizon High School to a 28-3 overall record and a perfect 12-0 mark in league play en route to winning the division championship.

"Alyssa is a versatile combo guard that has the ability to score the ball and also make everyone around her better. She has a high understanding of the game and a skill set that will allow her to make an impact for us right away."

Danelle ArigbabuDanelle Arigbabu | Fr. | C | 6-4 | Frankfurt, Germany
Arigbabu brings her talents to the Beach all the way from Frankfurt, Germany. A 6-foot-4 center and U17 Junior National Player, Arigbabu won the German Championship in 2014 in Berlin, before playing for the Federal Youth Camp in 2015. She averages 6.5 points per game and brings a wealth of experience to Long Beach State.

Cammon on Arigbabu:
"Danelle is a strong mobile post that gives us a much needed inside presence on both sides of the ball. The combination of her size and strength makes us a better defensive team right away. She will also give us much needed help on the boards. Danelle is just scratching the surface and will make a huge impact in this program for the next four years."

Kristyna JeskeonaKristyna Jeskeona | Fr. | G | 6-2 | Czech Republic
Jeskeona is a forward who hails from the Czech Republic. A member of the Czech Basketball Federation, Jeskeona will bring a wide range of experience to the Beach. She has had success playing for several different international teams including Slovanka MB and most recently, Jewelery Jablonec. Jeskeona helped lead TJ Bizuterie Jablonec to a second place finish in 2017.

Cammon on Jeskeona:
"Kristyna is a tough, versatile forward that that can fill a stat sheet. She can score, rebound, defend, and she's an exceptional passer. What stands out most about KJ are the intangible qualities you can't teach. She's a competitor and she will do anything to help her team win. KJ makes us better. We're excited to have her!"

Jada SmithJada Smith | Fr. | F. | 6-0 | Cary, N.C. (Cary HS)
Smith begins her collegiate career after having prepped at Cary High School in North Carolina. The power forward is coming off of a season in which she led her team to a 20-9 overall record as they went undefeated at 14-0 in conference action en route to capturing a regular season championship. Her team finished the season as runner up at State Regionals. Smith contributes on all sides of the ball as she averages 8.3 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game, 1.5 assists per game, 1.2 steals per game, and 0.5 blocks per game. An academic all-conference selection and NCHSAA Scholar Athlete, Smith plans to major in sports psychology and kinesiology at Long Beach State.

Cammon on Smith:
"Jada is a very athletic wing/forward that is just scratching the surface of the type of player she can be. With her athleticism, toughness, and lateral quickness, Jada has the potential to be one of the best defenders to come through Long Beach. We're excited for Jada to join the Beach family."
