LONG BEACH, Calif. – Sophomore Adam Seminaris was honored by the Big West Conference on Monday as he was named the Big West Pitcher of the Week following his career performance on Friday night. Seminaris set new career highs in innings pitched and strikeouts to help lead the Dirtbags to a 6-1 win over the Highlanders and was rewarded with the first weekly award of his career.
The southpaw allowed one run to UC Riverside over 8.0 innings pitched, working around eight hits and two walks to pick up his third win of the season. What made his outing particularly impressive were the strikeouts. Seminaris recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts on Friday night, recording at least one in seven of his eight innings of work.
Seminaris struck out the final batter in each of the first four innings, and utilized the punchouts to help strand 11 Highlanders on base. Twice, in the sixth and the eighth, he stranded the bases full to preserve Long Beach State's lead.
It is not only the first weekly award win for Seminaris, it's also the first weekly award win of the season for Long Beach State. The Dirtbags will be back in action on Tuesday night, visiting No. 1 UCLA at 6 p.m.
