Women’s Volleyball Unleashes 2019 Schedule

The Beach play 11 matches inside the Walter Pyramid and will go up against four nationally-ranked opponents

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State women's volleyball program has announced its 2019 schedule which features 11 home matches, seven teams which appeared in the NCAA Tournament, and four nationally-ranked opponents. LBSU Head Coach Joy McKienzie-Fuerbringer, who is entering her third season at the helm, announced the competitive schedule on Wednesday.
"Our preseason is purposely filled with four tough weekends where we can expect to be challenged and battle tested in preparation for conference play against Cal Poly and Hawai'i in our first week," McKienzie-Fuerbringer said. "Our staff is looking forward to a challenging preseason with good RPI teams that we believe can get us ready for strong Big West conference play."
The Beach open the year in Atlanta, Ga., at the Georgia Tech Invitational where Long Beach State will play UNC Asheville and host Georgia Tech on Friday, Aug. 30, before going up against Southern University on Saturday, Aug. 31.
LBSU will host the Long Beach State Tournament Sept. 5 – 7 as the Beach welcome the likes of Texas State, Georgia, and UCLA to the Walter Pyramid. The Beach will play Texas State on Sept. 5, before going up against Georgia on Sept. 6, and facing off against UCLA on Sept. 7.
Following the Long Beach State Tournament, the Beach will head to Gainesville, Fla., for another tournament where they will play James Madison and South Florida on Friday, Sept. 13, before closing out the weekend against host Florida on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The Beach continue preseason action in San Diego on Thursday, Sept. 19 at San Diego State, followed by the San Diego Tournament in which Long Beach State will face USC and host San Diego on Sept. 20 and 21, respectively.
Long Beach State begins Big West Conference action at Cal Poly on Tuesday, Sept. 24, before returning home to host Hawaii on Friday, Sept. 27. The Beach will play three road matches against conference foes CSUN (Oct. 5), UC Davis (Oct. 10), UC Riverside (Oct. 12), before welcoming Cal State Fullerton (Oct. 18), UC Irvine (Oct. 19), and CSUN (Oct. 26) to the Walter Pyramid.
LBSU travels to UC Santa Barbara for a mid-week contest on Tuesday, Oct. 29, before coming back to Southern California to face off against UC Riverside and UC Davis on Nov. 1 and 2, respectively.
A pair of trips to UC Irvine (Nov. 8) and Cal State Fullerton (Nov 9) are followed by back-to-back home contests against UC Santa Barbara (Nov. 15) and Cal Poly (Nov. 16), before the Beach close out the regular season at Hawaii on Friday, Nov. 20.
