Epson Finishes Top 5, Beach Tie for Sixth at Big West Championship

Junior Hunter Epson recorded a Top 5 finish in his first Big West Championship appearance, shooting an even par 72 on Tuesday at Wailua Golf Course to lead the Beach. Long Beach State finished in a tie for sixth for the event.
LIHUE, Hawai'i – Long Beach State concluded the 2019 Big West Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday at Wailua Golf Course in Hawai'i. Junior Hunter Epson shot an even par round of 72 to lead the effort for Long Beach State and the team finished in a tie for sixth place in the event.
It was a tough day overall for the Beach, but Epson had the sixth-lowest score of any golfer in round three. The Long Beach native started his round with a birdie on the first hole, as did three of the other four LBSU golfers on Tuesday.
Epson continued to roll, collecting birdies on No. 3 and No. 5. He bogeyed Nos. 6 and 8, however, to make the turn at 1-under for the day. Epson birdied the 10th to get back to two shots in the red, but lost some steam down the stretch to finish at even par for the round.
Freshman Bryce Kvick also birdied the first hole, and finished with a 77 on the round. Junior Hunter Reed had the next-best score for LBSU, shooting a 78 on Tuesday. He finished in a tie for 15th for the tournament.
