LBSU Men's Volleyball to Recognize the 1999 NCAA Finalist Team on Saturday night
A Look Back at 1999
On Saturday, March 9 during its match against Saint Francis (Pa.), top-ranked Long Beach State will welcome the 1999 team back to the Walter Pyramid as the 2019 season marks the 20th anniversary of the '99 squad's prolific run to the NCAA National Championship match.
In 1999, the Beach kicked off the season with a 10-match winning streak en route to completing the year with a 22-4 overall record and a 17-2 mark in MPSF action as they finished first in the Pacific Division.
That year, Long Beach State boasted three AVCA All-Americans in David McKienzie, Matt Prosser, and Chris Seiffert. McKienzie and Seiffert went on to be named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team for their outstanding performances in the Finals.
The 1999 Long Beach State men's volleyball team, which was coached by Ray Ratelle, went on to produce five professional men's volleyball players in both the indoor and beach circuit, three U.S. Men's National Team members, three World University Games members, and one Olympian.

Making it to the Finals in '99 was great, but as I reflect back on LBSU, I am grateful for the players, coaches, faculty, and being part of the best volleyball program in the nation."
