National Leader in men's decathlon.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – For the second consecutive week, a member of the Long Beach State track & field team garnered Athlete of the Week honors. This past week, senior Herman Day took home the Big West Field Athlete of the Week award after winning the men's decathlon at the UCR Spring Track Classic.
Day made a strong comeback in his first decathlon of the season, breaking his own meet record and establishing a new personal-best of 7,410 points. The senior won five of 10 events including the long jump, shot put, high jump, discuss, and javelin.
The Long Beach State decathlete has moved to the third spot on the all-time list and holds the highest recorded score in the Big West since 2013. Day's performance makes him the second LBSU national leader thus far in the outdoor season.
Day and the Beach are back in action March 27 at the Bob Larson Distance Carnival and Jim Bush Legends Invitational hosted by UCLA.
