LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State women's volleyball player Kashauna Williams, who concluded her freshman season as an outside hitter at the Beach, and Lindsey Lawmaster, a defensive specialist/libero who played at LBSU from 2014-15, will be taking part in the USA Volleyball National Team tryout. The tryouts will be taking place March 1-3 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The tryout will evaluate 215 athletes from 88 colleges from across the nation for positions on the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Collegiate National Team program. Three-time Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer Karch Kiraly and the U.S. Women's National Team staff will lead the tryout process.
"We are really thrilled that we have a couple of girls representing Long Beach State," LBSU head coach Joy McKienzie-Fuerbringer said. "For Kashauna, this is a great experience for her to gain by attending the tryout. If the players make the team, they continue to train in the summertime. That would be great experience for Kashauna. The more she can play the better to get her ready for the season."
Current LBSU women's volleyball player Hailey Harward was set to participate in the tryout as well, however a minor injury will prevent her for taking part at this time.
Williams finished her rookie season at Long Beach State with a selection to the Big West Conference All-Freshman Team after averaging 2.65 kills per set as the team's second leading scorer. She also contributed 65 total blocks to average 0.60 per set to go along with 0.77 digs per set.
Lawmaster played two seasons at Long Beach State and wrapped up her career at the Beach with 351 digs for an average of 1.61 per set. In 2014, she helped the Beach capture the Big West Conference title with a perfect 16-0 league record en route to an NCAA Second Round showing as Long Beach State concluded the year with a 27-5 record.
Each athlete will have one tryout session on Friday, one morning and one afternoon session on Saturday, and one morning session on Sunday.
