The Beach fell 25-18, 25-12, 25-20 against the 2019 Big West champions, playing in front of a sellout crowd of over 10,000 in Honolulu. Kashauna Williams led the way with 10 kills for LBSU, while Carly Aigner-Swesey and Hailey Harward each had 10 digs.

HONOLULU – In the 2019 regular season finale, Long Beach State (12-16, 9-7 Big West) faced a difficult road environment on Friday night at No. 18 Hawai'i (24-3, 14-2 Big West), suffering a 25-18, 25-12, 25-20 loss in front of a sellout crowd of 10,300 at Stan Sheriff Center. With the Senior Night victory, the Rainbow Wahine claimed the 2019 regular season Big West title, and dealt a blow to LBSU's postseason hopes.

Kashauna Williams had 10 kills to lead Long Beach State offensively in the match. Carly Aigner-Swesey dished out 28 assists and tied for the team high with 10 digs. Also recording 10 digs was senior Hailey Harward, who finished the match just three digs shy of a tie for third place on LBSU's career digs list.

Senior YiZhi Xue added seven kills in the middle, and fellow senior Kjersti Norveel led LBSU with five blocks on the night, including a pair of solo blocks. Playing in front of a large and vocal cheering section, Tia Chavira collected six kills and a team-best three service aces.

Both teams hit their best in the opening set, but Hawai'i had an advantage with their .389 attack percentage. Xue had four kills in the opening game, but UH gradually pulled away for the 25-18 win.

Hawai'i raced out to a 7-1 lead in set two to take control early. LBSU did respond with a 5-0 run to pull within 9-7, including back-to-back aces from Chavira. The Rainbow Wahine would end the set on a 15-4 run to take the 1-0 lead in the match.

The Beach battled in the third set, with Chavira collecting four of her six kills in the final game. LBSU out-blocked UH 3-2 in the third and held the Rainbow Wahine to .250 hitting, but UH was able to hold on to complete the sweep.
