LONG BEACH, Calif. – A defensively strong game on both sides, concluded with Long Beach State on the wrong end of a 51-37 decision to CSUN on Saturday at the Walter Pyramid.

The Beach (5-13, 2-3 Big West) shot 21.3 percent (13-for-61) in the game and never scored more than 15 points in a single quarter. However the Matadors (10-10, 4-2 Big West) finished shooting 34.5 percent (19-for-55) from the field and minus an 18-point fourth quarter, also never scored more than 15 points in the first three quarters.

A young Long Beach State defense did a solid job limiting the experienced CSUN offense early in the game. The Matadors were held to just seven points in the third quarter, however, the Beach could only muster five points of their own in the frame.

LBSU started the game off strong and led by as many as seven points (11-4) in the first quarter. A CSUN three by Claudia Ramos kicked off an 8-0 Matadors run that would give the visitors a one-point lead (12-11) at the end of the first quarter.

The Beach were never able to overcome that run as the Matadors led the rest of the way. CSUN led by as many as 17 (51-34) before Justina King hit a three with 48 seconds remaining as Long Beach State fell by a score of 51-37.

Naomi Hunt led the team with 11 points, while adding five rebounds, two steals, and one assist. King contributed nine points, a game-high six assists, two boards, and a pair of steals. Cydnee Kinslow led the team with seven rebounds, while Sydney Bordonaro added six points.

CSUN's Channon Fluker collected a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with three blocks and two assists.

Next up, Long Beach State will travel to UC Davis on Thursday, Jan. 31 for a 6 p.m. game.
