LONG BEACH, Calif. –
The Long Beach State women's basketball team pulled out a gritty 61-58 win over Cal Poly on Thursday night to win their fourth straight contest. The Beach had three players reach double figures as they move to 2-0 in Big West action.

LBSU (5-10, 2-0 Big West) and Cal Poly (4-10, 1-2 Big West) played each other tough throughout and exchanged leads 10 times, before the Beach took the lead thanks to a pair of Jasmine Hardy free throws followed by a three pointer from the freshman.

Hardy would finish the game with 12 points for her fifth double-digit performance. Joining in double-figures were Shanaijah Davison and Justina King. Davison posted a team-leading 16-point effort while King added 15.

The Beach opened the game strong as they held the Mustangs to just 23.5 percent shooting in the first quarter. Davison scored nearly half of her points in the first 10 minutes tallying seven points and leading the Beach to a 13-9 advantage.

Long Beach State had a strong second quarter as the Beach connected on 8-of-16 field goals. However Cal Poly's offense picked up and the Mustangs poured in 22 points in the quarter on 66.7 percent shooting. With the two teams' offenses firing away, the conference foes found themselves deadlocked at 31 at halftime.

Despite not getting to the line at all in the first half, the second half saw the Beach draw six fouls and connect on 8-of-9 free throws. The points generated from the charity stripe offset the Mustangs' 70 percent shooting (7-for-10) from the field as the Beach took a 53-51 edge over Cal Poly into the fourth quarter.

LBSU's lead in the third quarter was one it would not relinquish. Although Cal Poly managed to cut the Beach's lead down to one (57-56) with 4:49 remaining, Hardy connected on a jumper to push Long Beach State's lead back to three. The contest was close, but the Beach fought for the win and came away with a three-point victory to extend their winning streak to four.

Cal Poly's Alli Hallberg came off the bench and recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Maddie Willett added 12 points and five boards.

Long Beach State looks to continue its winning ways at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Jan. 19. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
