McDonald made 12 saves while playing every minute in two critical games for women’s soccer.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Goalkeeper Imani McDonald was named the initial Big West Defensive Player of the Week following Long Beach State's first two games of the season during which the senior made 12 saves.
Long Beach State opened up the season on the road at No. 2 UCLA, and were just seconds short of heading to overtime against the Bruins in large part to the efforts of McDonald, who made seven saves before UCLA scored the winner with two seconds remaining.
The defense bounced back against another strong opponent in SMU, as the Mustangs came to George Allen Field receiving votes in the latest poll, but left without a goal as McDonald made five saves on the way to recording her eighth individual shutout of her career.
McDonald finished the weekend with a goals against average of 0.50 making 12 saves, and had a .923 save percentage.
