Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Imani McDonald of women's soccer was one of six student-athletes chosen by the conference as a recipient of the Big West Service and Leadership award, a program in its inaugural season.
Only one male or female student-athlete from each institution was eligible for selection, and the recipient had to play for a team competing in the Big West conference, and remain academically eligible.
Ultimately, the highest priority for the award is honor someone who engages consistently in service and leadership activities that impact the campus, community and region and someone who makes the most of opportunities presented to them by taking on key roles, remaining innovative in seeking out meaningful service and leadership opportunities.
McDonald served not only as an executive for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, but was also elected as an ASI Senator At-Large by the student body, representing student leadership at the University Level. A four-time Academic All-Star, McDonald also was one of 13 student-athletes who participated in Long Beach State's recent service trip to Panama, creating a brand new community court in rural Valle Rico in partnership with Courts for Kids.
Other winners were Mikaela Francis of Cal State Fullerton, Allison Loomis of UC Irvine, Kelechi Ohiri from UC Davis, Chloe Pham of UC Riverside, and Claire Marie Anderson from Hawai'i.
