LONG BEACH, Calif. - Summer is the season of baseball, and several current and future Dirtbags are getting some reps in across the country to prepare for the 2019 college campaign. Here's a look at how some of Long Beach State's players are doing in their summer baseball leagues.
After a solid freshman campaign on the mound, LHP Adam Seminaris is throwing well for the Anchorage Bucs in the Alaska Baseball League. Seminaris has a 0.60 ERA in his six appearances, making five starts on the mound. He has 21 strikeouts in 30 innings, allowing 15 hits and six walks for a WHIP right at 1.00. Seminaris has surrendered just one run over his last 26 innings pitched.
Dylan Spacke has been used as a reliever with the Dirtbags, but has been good over his six starts for the Macon Bacon of the Coastal Plains League in Georgia. The righthander has a 2.79 ERA in 29 innings with 29 strikeouts. In his last start on July 13, Spacke tossed six shutout innings, allowing just three hits while fanning six batters.
A pair of Dirtbags have reunited with the Regina Red Sox of the Western Major Baseball League as OF Brooks Stotler and C Antonio Torres are both north of the border in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Stotler is hitting .227 through 26 games, drawing 20 walks to post a strong .373 on-base percentage. He also has a home run and nine RBIs in 88 at-bats with four stolen bases. Torres has played in 18 games, collecting a pair of homers and nine RBIs in 52 at-bats.
More locally, infielder Shaq Robinson is with the OC Riptide in the California Collegiate League. Through 10 games, Robinson is hitting .265 and had his best game on June 13 against the Academy Barons, hitting a pair of doubles while driving in three runs.
A member of last year's team that was unable to hit the field due to injury is C/1B Cole Joy, who has been with the Bellingham Bells of the West Coast League in Washington. Joy has a .269 average through 25 games, working 12 walks compared to just eight strikeouts. He has 11 runs scored and has collected eight RBIs.
As for some incoming Dirtbags recruits, infielder Brennan Rozell is playing well with the Lincoln Potters of the Great West League in Northern California. The incoming freshman is hitting .316 with a .400 OBP through 14 games. He has scored six runs, driven in seven and has three stolen bases. He's also been heating up, recording a multi-hit game in three of his last four contests.
Finally, OF Jacob Vander Wal has played 39 games for the Rockford Rivets in the Northwoods League. The incoming JUCO transfer is hitting .255 with a .331 OBP and has 12 extra-base hits. He's scored 16 runs with 18 RBIs and is an impressive 13-for-14 in stolen base attempts this summer.
