Irvine, Calif. - Long Beach State's women finished in second place at the Big West Challenge, winning all three sprints in the four-team event in Irvine. The LBSU men finished in third place, led by two first place finishes in the field events.
Long Beach State's women finished the meet with 180.5 points, just 4.5 points behind UC Santa Barbara, while the men ended the day in third place with 169.5 points as Cal State Fullerton took the men's lead.
"We picked up several regional marks today, which was an emphasis of ours coming into the meet," said head coach Andy Sythe. "Injuries hampered us today, but we'll work on coming back from this one and look towards the Big West Conference meet. We can execute better, and we'll try to see a different outcome there."
Sophomore Anaya Alexander won the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.45, smashing her own PR and recording the third-fastest time in the event in school history and the fastest this season in the Big West.
In the 100m, Courtne' Davis tied her PR with an 11.50 in the 100-meter dash, winning the event, while Ashleigh Chambers set a personal-best 11.59 while finishing third. The duo also finished 1-2 in the 200m, with Davis running a 23.71 to win the event while Chambers came in second with a 23.88.
