LONG BEACH – For the second year in a row, Long Beach State setter Josh Tuaniga took home the Lloy Ball Award, which is presented by Off the Block and given to the nation's top setter.
Tuaniga won the award after guiding top-ranked Long Beach State to a nation-best .379 attack percentage in which the Beach hit over .400 on 12 occasions. With Tuaniga pacing the offense, LBSU put together a program-best 24-match winning streak and won the Big West Championship.
The product out of Long Beach, Calif., dished out an average of 10.50 assists per set this season to rank sixth in the nation. He owns a .482 attack percentage (51-10-85), and adds 1.78 digs per set and 26 service aces to rank in the top 10 in the Big West.
Tuaniga put his talents on display last week at the Big West Tournament as he led the team to a .393 attack percentage over two matches en route to being name MVP of the tournament.
He is just the second player to win the Lloy Ball Award multiple times in his collegiate career joining former USC All-American and current U.S. starting setter Micah Christenson who won the award in 2014 and 2015.
Tuangia received 55 votes to beat runner up, Micah Ma'a from UCLA by 21 votes. The pair were the only setters to receive double-digit votes.
The Lloy Ball Award is named after the former Fort Wayne All-American and U.S. Olympian setter and is presented to the nation's best setter in NCAA Division I-II men's volleyball during the regular season.
A voting committee of about 25 men's volleyball coaches and volleyball media members from around the nation determined the winner for the Lloy Ball Award.
