RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Long Beach State will be heading out to Riverside this weekend for the Spring Track Classic hosted by UC Riverside. The Beach will be sending a smaller squad on the track, but will have plenty of athletes competing in multis, distance races, throws, jumps, and pole vault.
The action at the three-day meet begins on Thursday with the men's decathlon. Long Beach's quartet of Devon Alvarado, John Broadhead, Cole Hicks and Jackson Potter will all be competing, starting out Thursday at 11 a.m. for Day One. The men's decathlon will conclude on Friday, with action once again beginning at 11 a.m.
On Saturday, the rest of the squad will arrive for a full day of competition, starting at 10 a.m. with women's pole vault and men's javelin. The Beach will have five competitors in the women's pole vault: Lauren Bartsch, Hailee Brigman, Lea Fong, Teresa Tamashiro, and Betsy Hathaway. In the women's high jump, reigning Big West Field Athlete of the Week Bria Palmer will look to win her third straight event to start the 2018 outdoor season. She will be joined by teammates Diana Acholonu, Delaney Smith and Meg Sweeney in the high jump.
Erykah McNairy leads a group of four LBSU throwers in the women's discus, as she'll be joined by Crystal Rodriguez, Amanda Truong and Brianna Uipi. There will be six Beach throwers in the men's discus, led by redshirt junior Josh Carr and also including Ryan Coy, Nicholas Hudson, Tavi Kamarullah, Anthony Sommers, and Sullivan Wall.
On the track, the 1500-meter will be LBSU's busiest event of the day, and the first, as it kicks off at 1:55 p.m. on Saturday. Robert Daseler, Joseph Del Valle-Rutherford, Faustino Diaz, Ezra Sotelo and Trevor Stangle will run on the men's side while Lexi Ceballos, Mikayla Florez and Taylor Owen make up the women's competitors for the Beach.
Erin McGuire will pull double duty in the women's 100-meter and the 100-meter hurdles. Whitney Knox will double up in the 200 and 400, where she will be joined by Hollie Harris. Braeden Kraft, Patrick Higgins and Logan Schaefer will compete in the men's 800 while Owen and Alexis Medrano are scheduled to race on the women's side.
Live results for the meet will be available online via Finished Results.
