LAST TIME OUT
• Long Beach State bounced back with a 5-1 win over Washington State on Wednesday night. Led by seven strong innings from freshman Adam Seminaris, LBSU was able to cruise to a comfortable home win. The Dirtbags scored all five of their runs with two outs, getting 10 hits on the night while holding the Cougars to just three.
• Jarren Duran and Leonard Jones each had multi-hit games against Wazzu, and all eight starters who remained in the lineup recorded at least one base hit. The combination of Seminaris and Eli Villalobos did not issue a walk in the game.
SCOUTING THE GREEN WAVE
• Tulane has played some tough teams this season, and has a few common opponents with Long Beach State. The Green Wave was swept in a series at Ole Miss, and the next weekend hosted Cal State Fullerton for a three-game set, winning one.
• Sophomore 2B and leadoff hitter Jonathon Artigues leads the team with a .358 batting average. Grant Witherspoon leads the Green Wave with three home runs and 16 RBIs. Tulane has five players with three or more stolen bases, and the team is a combined 21-for-25 on the bases.
• Tulane has a team ERA of 5.24 on the season, with every starter having an ERA of 3.38 or higher. The Green Wave haven't racked up many strikeouts as a pitching staff this season, recording 126 in 161.1 innings pitched on the year.
• Long Beach State holds a 1-2 all-time record against Tulane. These teams met for a three-game series in Long Beach during the 1998 season.
PUT TO THE TEST
• Long Beach State is playing one of the most difficult non-conference schedules in the nation this season. The Dirtbags are playing three road series against teams that reached the College World Series in 2017 (TCU, Texas A&M, and Cal State Fullerton) all in the first six weeks of the season.
• The Dirtbags schedule currently ranks as the third-toughest in the nation with a combined opponents' record of 165-62.
BOHL DIAMOND AT BLAIR FIELD
• Long Beach State received a multi-million dollar donation during the offseason from longtime supporter Marilyn Bohl. In recognition of her generous gift, , the Dirtbags' home field has been renamed Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
• Bohl has been actively involved in supporting the Blair Field renovation project for years, and previously gave a one million dollar gift to help kick off the initial phase of the renovations prior to the 2016 season.
• So far, the renovation efforts have included a new outfield fence, the Troy & Danyll Tulowitzki Batting Facility, the Jered Weaver Bullpen, and improvements to the Dirtbags locker room. Future plans include new stadium lighting, improved field drainage, a new multi-purpose team room along the left field line, plus restroom and seating upgrades.
LB IN MLB
• For the eighth consecutive year, Long Beach State had more players in the major leagues than any other college or university. There were 15 former Dirtbags who played in the major leagues in 2017 and the all-time total for Long Beach State is 48 big league representatives.
• There were two former Dirtbags who made their MLB debuts in 2017. First, it was RHP Shane Carle who appeared for the Colorado Rockies on April 14. Later in the season, C Mike Marjama made his debut with the Seattle Mariners on September 3.
• Kansas City Royals lefthander Jason Vargas made his first All-Star Game appearance during the 2017 season. The Dirtbags will be giving away commemorative Vargas bobbleheads prior at the UC Irvine game on April 7.
