LONG BEACH, Calif. - On a chilly Tuesday night at Blair Field, Long Beach State (1-3) couldn't sustain its offensive attack in a 5-1 loss against visiting USC. Despite allowing just three hits to the visiting Trojans, LBSU dropped its third game in a row.

Freshman Adam Seminaris made his first career start for the Dirtbags and pitched effectively through the first four innings. The southpaw kept USC hitless through 4.2 innings, but allowed a two-out, bases clearing double that turned a 1-1 game into a 4-1 USC lead that, ultimately, wouldn't go away.

LBSU got on the board in the second inning to tie the game after USC plated an unearned run in the first. Shaq Robinson's infield single scored Laine Huffman, who singled to start the inning. Jarren Duran also had a good night at the plate, ripping a triple to right center and also beating out an infield hit to go 2-for-4 for the game.

The final three relievers for the Dirtbags—Jacob Hughey, Dylan Spacke and John Castro—did not allow a hit in their three combined innings of work. It was Castro's season debut and Spacke only needed seven pitches to retire the side in the eighth.

After playing the first four games of the season at home, Long Beach State hits the road this weekend for a three-game series against No. 7 TCU in Fort Worth, Tex. LBSU's next home game will be next Tuesday, Feb. 27, against Arizona State.
