Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball Announces 2019 Schedule

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The defending National Champion Long Beach State men's volleyball team will face a challenging slate for the 2019 season as the Beach have a competitive schedule which features 12 teams that were nationally ranked a year ago. LBSU will play 12 home matches including a non-conference tournament. The 2019 season will culminate with Long Beach State hosting the NCAA Tournament on May 2 and 4 inside the Walter Pyramid.
The Beach begins the season with an exhibition tournament at the end of December featuring Alberta, McMaster, and UC Santa Barbara. Long Beach State will play Alberta and McMaster Dec. 29-31 in the final tune up before the official start to the 2019 season.
Long Beach State kicks off the 2019 campaign at the UC Santa Barbara Asics Invitational on January 3 as the Beach go up against Grand Canyon, which finished the season ranked 14th in the nation. The UCSB tournament will pit LBSU against No. 13 Concordia Irvine and Harvard on January 4 and 5, respectively.
Following the UCSB Asics Tournament, the Beach will travel to North Carolina where they will take on Mount Olive and Barton College on January 10 and 11, respectively. Long Beach State returns to southern California to face No. 2 UCLA in a rematch of the 2018 National Championship match at Pauley Pavilion on Jan. 19.
The Beach will host USC on Friday, January 25 in the Long Beach State home opener. The contest marks the lone home match in the month of January for LBSU as the Beach will travel to St. Charles, Mo., for the Lindenwood Tournament which runs from Jan. 31 – Feb. 2. At Lindenwood, Long Beach State will play the host Lions (Jan. 31) as well as Quincy (Feb. 1), and McKendree (Feb. 2).
The Long Beach State Tournament will take place on February 8 and 9 as the Beach welcome Penn State, Ohio State, and UC Santa Barbara to the Pyramid. LBSU will go head-to-head with Ohio State, which closed out the 2018 season ranked fourth, on Feb. 8, before closing out the tournament against Penn State, which was ranked as high as seventh a year ago, on Feb. 9.
LBSU will host UCLA on Feb. 16 at the Pyramid before opening Big West Conference action on March 1 against No. 9 CSUN. Following the home contest against the Matadors, the Beach will travel to Northridge for a March 3 match up at CSUN.
The Beach play a pair of non-conference matches on March 8 and 9 as Long Beach State hosts Stanford on Friday and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday.
Long Beach State resumes Big West play against No. 12 UCSB as the Beach host the Gauchos inside the Pyramid on Thursday, March 14, before traveling to Santa Barbara for a Friday, March 15 match.
In their final non-conference match of the regular season, the Beach will travel to USC on Saturday, March 23, before getting back into league action against UC Irvine, which closed out the 2018 campaign ranked sixth. The Beach and the Anteaters will play at UCI on Friday, March 29 before playing at the Pyramid on Saturday, March 30.
LBSU's penultimate conference series puts the Beach up against UC San Diego as Long Beach State hosts the Tritons on April 5 before playing at UCSD on April 6.
Long Beach State closes out the regular season with a pair of home matches against Hawai'i, which finished the 2018 season with a No. 5 national ranking. The Beach and the Rainbow Warriors will play at the Pyramid on April 12 and 13.
The Big West Conference Tournament is set for April 18-20 in Honolulu, Hawai'i, followed by the NCAA Tournament on May 2 and 4, which will be held at the Walter Pyramid.
