Fujikuni, Gonzales Selected As First-Team All-West Region

Gonzales earned All-Region honors for the third time, while it is Fujikuni’s first selection.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State's senior captains were both selected for the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region First Team, further recognition for the outstanding season both had while leading Women's Soccer to both the Big West regular season and tournament championships.
Fujikuni was the Big West Midfielder of the Year as well as the Big West Tournament MVP, scoring six goals while adding four assists on the season. A three-time All-Big West selection, Fujikuni started all 21 games for the Beach in 2018 and finished the season with 16 points and 18 shots on goal, second on the team. The 2018 First Team selection in the first All-Region honor of her career.
Gonzales shared the team's points lead with Fujikuni with 16 points, and scored seven goals in 2018 to lead Long Beach State. Starting all 21 games after returning from a knee injury that sidelined her in 2017, Gonzales earned her second first-team All-Region nod, having previously been chosen in the 2016 campaign. Gonzales finished her career with 36 goals, a new Long Beach State record, including the game-winner in the Big West Tournament Finals.
The duo become the eighth and ninth players from the Beach to be named First Team All-Region. With their selection, both players are eligible for selection as All-Americans, and have the chance to join Nadia Link in that distinction of players from Long Beach State.
