Long Beach State Falls to Utah Valley in Vegas Title Game

The Beach suffered an 87-72 setback on Wednesday afternoon in Las Vegas, losing in the championship game of the MGM Resorts Main Event Middleweight bracket despite 29 points from Las Vegas native Deishuan Booker.

LAS VEGAS -- Despite another strong performance from senior guard Deishuan Booker, who scored a game-high 29 points on Wednesday afternoon, Long Beach State (2-4) suffered an 87-72 loss against Utah Valley in the MGM Resorts Main Event Middleweight Bracket title game.
 
Booker, who is a native of Las Vegas, scored 23 of his points after halftime, going 7/12 from the floor and 7/7 from the free-throw line over the final 20 minutes. He also added four assists and two steals without turning the ball over in 37 minutes on the floor.
 
Temidayo Yussuf was also in double-figures with 11 points, Ron Freeman added eight points and KJ Byers had a team-high six rebounds. Freeman had a pair of three's, as did Jordan Griffin, who also chipped in a pair of steals.
 
The Beach shot the ball well, with a field-goal percentage of 42.6 and a three-point percentage of 40.9 on the day, but Utah Valley shot 58 percent from the floor to run away with the win. The Wolverines made seven of their 12 three-point attempts in the second half and converted 18 times from the charity stripe to preserve the victory.
 
After the extended road trip, Long Beach State will be back at Walter Pyramid this Sunday, hosting Oregon State at 2 p.m.
