LBSU Women’s Volleyball Has Five Named All-Big West

Tyler Spriggs leads the way with a first team selection

IRVINE, Calif. – Long Beach State had five players receive All-Big West honors as the conference announced the 2018 Big West Women's Volleyball All-Conference Team on Tuesday. Senior Tyler Spriggs led the group as the lone first team selection, while Hailey Harward, Emma Kirst and YiZhi Xue earned honorable mention honors, and Kashauna Williams was named to the All-Freshman Team.
Spriggs, a senior outside hitter, led the Beach all season with 3.07 kills per set which is good for seventh in the conference. She owns a .277 attack percentage after knocking down a team-leading 329 kills on 883 attempts with 84 errors. The Los Angeles, Calif., native also contributed 1.89 digs per set and 0.50 blocks per set, while notching 19 service aces. She led the Beach in kills in 12 matches and reached the 20-kill plateau four times.
Harward earned honorable mention status marking her third all-conference selection after having been named to the All-Freshman Team in 2016 and to the First Team a year ago. Harward turned in a solid junior season in which she played on both sides of the ball. Starting the season at outside hitter, then moving to libero, Harward leads the Beach with 3.39 digs per set and averages 2.11 kills per set. She is also the team leader in service aces with 41 for 0.37 per set which ranks her third in the conference. Harward has been a solid all-around player this season also adding 0.36 blocks per set at the net.
Joining Harward with an honorable mention selection is Kirst, a senior middle blocker, who led the league in blocks per set for the majority of the season. She totaled 120 blocks and owns an average of 1.06 blocks per set which is good for third in the Big West. Additionally, Kirst helped the Beach offense as she averaged 1.46 kills per set on .254 hitting.
Xue earned her second honorable mention selection, and third all-conference nod overall, after leading the Beach with a .325 attack percentage. She is second on the squad with 1.03 blocks per set, which ranks her sixth in the Big West. In addition to solid blocking defense, Xue adds 1.71 kills per set.
Rounding out LBSU's all-conference selections is Williams who was named to the All-Freshman Team after a solid rookie season. The product out of Northridge, Calif., is second on the team with 2.65 kills per set after tallying 286 kills on the year. She also owns 65 total blocks for an average of 0.60 per set to go along with 0.77 digs per set.
