Naomi Hunt had a season-high 21 points in the loss for Long Beach State.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Long Beach State stormed out to a 20-18 lead after the first quarter in the first road test of the year for the Beach at Utah, but the Utes rallied in the second half and pulled away for an 82-49 final.

Long Beach State (0-3) was led by sophomore Naomi Hunt, who finished with a season-high 21 points as well as leading the team in rebounding on the Sunday.  Freshman Kianna Hamilton-Fisher also ended up in double-figures for the first time with 11 points on the night, and Justina King finished with new best of seven assists in Salt Lake City.

Utah (3-0) hit a 3-pointer off of the opening tip, but Long Beach State answered with a three from Hunt, the first of three for the sophomore in the quarter as the Beach came out on fire in the Huntsman Center.

Shooting 80 percent from distance in the first quarter, a fast-break basket from Sydney Bordonaro and a lay-in from Lauren Green put the Beach on top 20-16 with just over a minute left in the quarter.

The Beach continued to shoot well in the second quarter, making three of four from three continuing to push the Utes, cutting the lead back to one a final time with 2:21 remaining on a second-straight triple from Hamilton-Fisher.

Long Beach State hit a cold streak in the third quarter however, shooting just 20 percent from the field over the ten minutes as Utah pulled away, outscoring the Beach 25-7 in the quarter to take a 67-42 lead after three.

An 8-0 run in the fourth quarter helped the Beach chip into the lead in the final ten minutes, but the damage was done as the Beach fell 82-49. Megan Huff led all scorers with 22 points, with three other Utes finishing in double-figures.

Long Beach State returns to the Walter Pyramid this Sunday, when the Beach hosts Nevada at 4 p.m. Join us or follow the action via www.longbeachstate.com.
