Sarah Maher Named Big West Defensive Player Of The Week

The senior led the Beach to two shutout victories last week.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Senior Sarah Maher was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week after a pair of outstanding performances the week prior.
Playing every minute of Long Beach State's two games last week in defense, Maher helped the back line record a pair of shutouts against Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara, starting with a 1-0 win over the Mustangs in double overtime.
The senior then scored her second game-winning goal of the season in a 1-0 win against the Gauchos, heading home the 64th minute winner for her third career goal as the Beach remained unbeaten in Big West Conference play.
Maher is the second LBSU player to be named the Defensive Player of the Week this season, joining goalkeeper Imani McDonald who won the honor in the opening week of the year.
