LONG BEACH – Long Beach State junior setter Josh Tuaniga was named VolleyMob Player of the Week just a day after picking up the same honors from the Big West Conference.
Tuaniga earned the accolades after piloting the Beach to a pair of wins over No. 11 Lewis and No. 7 Loyola as he paced the Long Beach State offense with 61 assists on the week en route to the team hitting .417.
The Long Beach, Calif., native dished out 32 assists, five kills, five digs, and five blocks, while the team hit .386 in a 3-0 sweep at Lewis. Tuaniga came back a day later and registered 29 assists, eight digs, and two aces, while leading the team with a .456 attack percentage at Loyola in another 3-0 victory.
With Tuaniga running the offense, top-ranked Long Beach State is hitting .418 on the year and has opened the season with a 6-0 record marking the Beach's best start to the year since 2008 when they posted a 9-0 ledger.
Tuaniga and the Beach will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 20 at Stanford. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
