No. 6 Beach Falls To No. 5 Pacific

Long Beach, Calif. — In front of a standing-room only crowd, No. 6 Long Beach State fell to No. 5 Pacific 14-10 Saturday night.

The Beach (9-6, 1-0) got off to a slow start in the Golden Coast Conference opener and the Tigers took advantage. The Tigers (12-2, 0-1) scored seven goals in the first quarter to take a 7-3 lead.

In the first, Chandler Kaltenbach got a goal from the perimeter, while Nemanja Bakic and Austin Stewart each scored on 5-meter shots.

LBSU locked down on defense the rest of the way only allowing seven goals through the last three quarters.

"They got some firepower," coach Gavin Arroyo said. "We came out with a lot of energy, but they were able to convert on their counter attacks and 6-on-5's early."

In the second quarter, junior Thomas Freeman had five of his seven saves.

At halftime, the Pacific led 9-4 and senior Duncan Lynde scored his first of three goals on the night.

Stewart led the Beach in the third quarter with three of his four goals on the night.

The Beach added one goal in the fourth.
