Los Angeles, Calif. — Senior Duncan Lynde scored three goals to help No. 6 Long Beach State advance to the fifth-place game at the MPSF Invitational with a 12-7 win over No. 10 UC Irvine Saturday night.

In the first quarter, LBSU (9-4) jumped to an early 4-2 lead thanks to goals from Jacob Fujioka, Austin Stewart, Nemanja Bakic and Duncan Lynde.

The Beach's offense got hot in the second quarter scoring six goals to take a 10-2 lead at halftime.

Fujioka, Lynde and Stewart added their second goals of the game, while Max Cusator and Mitchell Holden netted their first goals of the game.

UCI (7-4) cut the lead to 10-6 in the third quarter holding LBSU's offense at bay.

In the final quarter, LBSU's offense got going again as Austin Stevenson and Chandler Kaltenbach each scored.

Thomas Freeman and Marwan Darwish each got time in goal. Freeman had 10 saves while Darwish had five.

LBSU will take on Golden Coast Conference rival Pacific in the fifth-place game on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
