Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State will once again be participating in the Big West Coin Drive, an annual event that challenges student-athlete leadership to support a local charity of their choice. This year, Long Beach State has chosen to work with Beach Pantry here on campus.
Below is a letter from the SAAC Executive Board:
"For the past 10 years, during the month of February the Big West Conference challenges the student-athletes from its member institutions to raise funds for a charitable organization or cause as part of the Big West Coin Drive. This year, the Long Beach State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) committed to supporting the Pantry by donating complimentary toiletries from hotels that teams collect when on the road. We will continue to support the Beach Pantry financially during the month of February. The Beach Pantry is the official food pantry for CSULB. Opened in August 2016, the pantry was created after a recent study found that 21% of students on CSU campuses may be food insecure, meaning that they lack reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable and nutritious food. Since its opening, the Pantry has served over 2,500 students.
On behalf of our fellow student-athletes, we graciously ask for your support by donating to the Beach Pantry. Any contribution made to the Beach Pantry is appreciated and valued because as a campus and community we can work together to make a difference in another person's life."
Student-Athletes will be asking for donations to support the coin drive at various sporting events through February, or those interested can donate directly ONLINE HERE.
