
No. 7 Long Beach State Splits Games In Final Homestand

Long Beach, Calif. — Playing in their final home game of the season, No. 7 Long Beach State hosted a doubleheader against No. 4 Stanford and Long Beach City College.
In the opening game against the Cardinal (14-3, 0-1), the Beach battled with Stanford from the get-go. Junior defender Austin Stevenson gave LBSU (11-11, 1-2) an early 1-0 lead in the first quarter.
After Stanford evened the score with 5:28 left in the first quarter, senior Jacob Fujioka netted a 6-on-5 goal to give the Beach a 2-1 lead with 4:24 remaining in the first.
The Cardinal scored two more goals in the final minutes to take a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.
With 4:31 left in the first half, junior Chandler Kaltenbach tied the game on another 6-on-5 power play.
Stanford got some momentum after taking a 4-3 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Stanford went on a 4-2 run to take an 8-5 lead in heading into the final quarter. Senior Duncan Lynde scored his two goals in the third quarter.
In the final quarter, LBSU mounted a furious comeback attempt as they trailed 10-6.
With 3:44 remaining in the game, Nemanja Bakic netted three goals to cut the lead to 10-9 with 2:04 remaining.
The Beach ran out of time as they fell 10-9 to close the game.
After the game Long Beach State honored Andras Telegdy, Mitchell Holden, Lee Griffin, Jacob Fujioka and Duncan Lynde — the team's five seniors.
"They've given everything — we test them, we push them — and they've really blossomed into solid young men," LBSU head coach Gavin Arroyo said.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Beach dominated Long Beach City College in a 17-4 win.
