
No. 8 Long Beach State Splits Games During Doubleheader

Long Beach, Calif. — Capping off a busy week for No. 8 Long Beach State, the Beach had a doubleheader against No. 3 California and Golden West College Sunday afternoon.
Opening the day, LBSU took on Cal and it looked like it was going to be a close game as the two were tied at 1 after the first quarter.
Redshirt sophomore Austin Stewart gave the Beach (11-10, 1-2) an early 1-0 lead with 4:14 left in the first quarter. Cal quickly tied the game to make it 1-1 after the first quarter.
Early in the second quarter, Cal took a 2-1 lead with 7:41 in the second quarter. After junior Austin Stevenson tied the game at two with 7:00 left in the second, the Golden Bears (17-1, 1-0) rattled off five unanswered goals to take a 7-1 lead with 4:02 left until halftime.
Lee Griffin stopped the run with a goal at the 1:00 minute in the second quarter to make it 7-3 heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, Cal outscored the Beach 4-2. Senior Duncan Lynde and Stewart scored to make it 11-5 heading into the final quarter.
Cal scored two quick goals to start the fourth quarter, but Griffin and Lynde answered to make it 13-7 with 32 second remaining.
The Golden Bears scored one more time on a powerplay, but Nemanja Bakic scored with 17 seconds left in the game to make it 14-8.
n the exhibition match against Golden West, the Beach dominated in a 12-4 win.Head coach Gavin Arroyo was able to give plenty of guys time in the pool as LBSU had nine guys score goals in the game.
