
LBSU Takes Third Place At Bill Cullum Invitational

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Long Beach State finished in third place on Tuesday afternoon at the Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club.
LBSU posted a team high 288 to fall one spot in the standings, finishing the two-day, three round tournament with a 9-under-par 855.
Utah State captured the team title with a 16-under, as the Aggies won by two strokes over second-place UC Santa Barbara at 14-under.
Juniors Joe Fryer and Patrick Pockels were the top players for the 49ers, tying for sixth at 4-under 212. Fryer fired a 1-under 71 that include four birdies, four bogeys and one eagle on his last hole on the par-5 18th. Pockels carded a 73 with three birdies and four bogeys.
Senior Nick Cantlay recorded his best round of the tournament, shooting a 70 with five birdies and three bogeys to move up in the standings by 15 spots to tie for 17th at even-216.
Junior Andres Gonzalez tied for 25th at 2-over, after shooting a 74, while freshman Connor Nelson remained tied for 58th at 11-over after carding a 76.
Derek Castillo of Cal State Fullerton captured individual medalist with a 14-under 202, winning by seven strokes over David Kim of UC Irvine.
The 49ers return to action on Thursday, Oct. 26, for the three-day Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational at The Reserve at Spanos Park Golf Club in Stockton.
